A minha roda de fiar, uma great wheel ou roda portuguesa de tipo 1, foi feita em São Miguel, nos Açores, por um carpinteiro para quem esta não foi (felizmente) uma encomenda invulgar ou excepcional. É muito semelhante às rodas do Baixo Alentejo e Serra Algarvia e funciona exactamente da mesma maneira, mas tem algumas diferenças: o fuso é de madeira e não de ferro, a roda propriamente dita é bastante maior e não tem manivela (para a fazermos girar pressionamos os raios na direcção desejada) e o suporte do fuso está montado em cima do banco da roda e não do lado esquerdo deste.

No workshop deste Sábado foi óptimo ter mais técnicas para partilhar com quem veio aprender a ir da ovelha ao novelo. Além do fuso, claro, todos puderam experimentar fiar na roda e também num caneleiro de ferro do Baixo Minho (caneleiro de tipo 1). Estes caneleiros (de que a Joana Sequeira fala aqui), ainda que muito elementares e pouco produtivos, podem ser usados com a mesma técnica da roda para fiar e torcer fios de qualquer espessura.

PS: um bocadinho do que se fez no Sábado.
