A few weeks ago I’ve knitted a simplified Official Kitty62 Hat (without the earflaps and ears – I didn’t like how they were looking so I left it without them). It was so easy and fast (working with double pointed needles is a lot easier than I thought) that I decided to make some adaptations to the pattern and give it another go. This is what I came up with and here is my version of the pattern:

Materials:

Same as for Official Kitty62 Hat.

I used one skein of Noro Kureyon #126 (the same yarn I used for this sweater).

Directions:

First earflap:

Cast on 12 stitches.

First row: knit all stitches.

Second, 4th, 6th and 8th rows: purl all stitches.

3rd, 5th and 7th rows: increase one stitch at each end of row and knit all stitches.

Work in stockinette stitch until the earflap measures 6 cm (2,4 in), ending with a purl row. Leave stitches on a holder.

Second earflap:

Repeat all steps of the first earflap.

Knit one row, cast on 24 stitches and knit the 18 stitches of the first ear (after the sts you’ve just cast on). Cast on another 24 sts.

From this point on work round.

Knit 6 whole rounds. Purl until the hat measures 13 cm (5,1 in). Put a stitch marker after every 12th stitch.

Reduction rows (switch to double pointed needles when necessary): *P2 tog before each marker, purl one round plain* until there is only one stitch between each marker. Draw tail through remaining stitches and pull firmly.
